Guilty: Pumpkin Pie Tamales

We’re only about a week from September and you know what that means… pumpkin flavored everything! From coffee to doughnuts to even pumpkin raviolis ’tis the season for pumpkin-EVERYTHING. IMUSA, leader in Hispanic cookware, is even jumping on the trend with their recipe for “Pumpkin-Pie” Tamales. This recipe takes the traditional Mexican Masa tamales and adds all the fall season’s favorite ingredients like ginger, nutmeg, raisins and pumpkin (of course), leaving this sweet side dish a sure favorite with anyone who gets their hands on one.

Now I must admit – I jump pretty firmly on the “pumpkin” bandwagon as well – in fact I am always happy to find a restaurant serving pumpkin pie in the Spring! But never would I have thought to make TAMALES with pumpkin. But this I gotta try.

Guilty: Crock Pot Cinnamon Apple Sauce

My youngest son eats a bag of apples a week.  I wish I was joking, but I am not.  My tiny little guy consumes an entire $5 bag that contains 6-8 apples.  Furthering his love for apples, he read a Ready Freddy book about an apple orchard. In the book, Freddy’s mom makes an apple crisp and apple sauce with their picks from the orchard.  After completing the book, Tyler decided that he would like me to make him homemade apple sauce. At first I was a bit skeptical. In an effort to not be out done by a literary character (Freddy’s mom) I scoured Pinterest reading all the articles on homemade apple sauce.  Picking steps and ingredients from several different recipes, I created my very own Crock Pot Cinnamon Apple Sauce.  And yep- It’s Guilty!  I am sure you could substitute brown sugar for honey or agave nectar, but my lil guy wanted good ole fashioned apple sauce and that is what I made him.

Guilt Free: Baked Apples & Pears with Cinnamon Graham Cracker Bites

My time is a little bit more flexible on the weekend with which I usually prepare a large Sunday meal including dessert. My family deserves to indulge in a desert every now and again. Dessert is meant to be a sweet treat to top off a great meal.   Yet the problem is commonly found recipes for desserts are usually full of sugar and nothing good for you.  The key is to indulge in something sweet with out it being full of calories and sugar, so that you may actually INDULGE and enjoy a dessert! With that in mind I came put together this recipe full of fiber, including oats and flax seeds, served alongside warm apples and pears drizzled in honey. It’s absolutely yummy!

Guilty: Funfetti Chex Buddies Candy

While perusing Pinterest a few months ago I ran across a pin for “Funfetti Cake Batter Buddies” from SixSistersStuff.com. Now, Funfetti has a special place in my heart since it is the absolute BEST batter to use in the Babycakes Cake Pop Maker – so I have it on hand at all times. I also have been known to stick my head in the mixing bowl to make sure not to waste any of the yummy batter – all the while hearing my grandmother scold me from heaven about ingesting raw eggs in the batter… So the idea of a CANDY – that I can eat freely without the threat of salmonella poisoning….. I’M IN!!!
